The Coskata Belt

The Coskata Belt begins with a wild oyster shell harvested from the Coskata beds—a natural oyster ground that curls around Nantucket's northeastern tip, cradled by 500 acres of salt marsh, largely unchanged for centuries. Artist Bernard Kelly of the Cape Cod Buckle Company casts each shell individually into a buckle, capturing every ridge, ripple, and imperfection that the sea left behind. No two are exactly alike.

Similarly, the leather belt is handcrafted on Cape Cod by artisans who finish each strap by hand.

*A note on provenance. Slight variations in metal color occur naturally from casting to casting. Not a flaw, but proof of the human hand behind the buckle, from something that once lived in the water off Nantucket.
